Numerical Abnormalities

Numerical abnormalities involve changes in chromosome number.

  • Aneuploidy: The presence of an abnormal number of individual chromosomes.
  • Trisomy: The presence of an additional copy of a particular chromosome.
  • Monosomy: The loss of one chromosome from a pair.
  • Polyploidy: The presence of more than two complete chromosome sets.

Some numerical abnormalities are compatible with development, while others may affect cell viability or organismal development.
